Iron Phosphates Detergent

Detergent Zirconium Phosphate Hybrid. Detergent and Nanotechnology Coating for Cleaning, Improved Paint Adhesion, and Improved Corrosion Resistance at Room Temperature on Aluminum, Steel, and Galvanized Metals. Extremely low-phosphorus detergent zirconium phosphate hybrid. Ambient to 140F operating temperature. Definitive blue phosphate coating.

ChemWorld ZR 40 is a detergent nanotechnology zirconium polymer coating formulated for cleaning and outstanding corrosion inhibition and superior paint adhesion on metal surfaces. The coating contains a blend of organic and inorganic compounds which naturally bond with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The product provides a visual indication of coating without the traditional use of high-phosphorus compounds.

ChemWorld ZR 40 provides superior paint adhesion and corrosion resistance to the applied paint finish over traditional iron phosphate coatings. ChemWorld ZR 40 does not contain regulated heavy metals, and is acceptable for almost any waste treatment facility or regional POTW. ChemWorld ZR 40 is an excellent replacement to traditional high phosphorus based coatings when phosphate discharges are regulated.

USE INFORMATION:
  • Concentration: 2.0 to 2.5% by volume as detergent zirconium phosphate. Recommend the product for one or both Stages #1 and #2 of a three stage pretreatment line.
  • pH in Operation: 4.0 to 4.6 for optimal coating.
  • Temperature: Ambient to 120F.
  • Contact Time: 30-seconds minimum per stage is recommended.
  • Rinsing: Total Dissolved Solids should be kept below 700 in the rinse stage. DI or RO is recommended for extended tank life.

Frequently Asked Questions
I just received my Chemworld ZR 40 and I have a couple questions regarding the application. The spec sheet says minimum contact time of 30 seconds and then rinse. I actually dipped the part, which is mild steel, for 2 minutes. I should have a distinct bluish phosphorous coating, but I really don't see a difference in color. Do you have any specific directions for use or any thoughts on my situation?
The pH must be 4.2 to 4.8. Adjust upward with soda ash or caustic soda or baking soda if needed. If the pH is too acidic, a coating can not form as it is etched off as soon as it is applied. The product does not contain molybdate, so there will be a color change but not a deep blue color like with other products.
A heated solution will make the color change more robust and keeping the metal in longer will make the coating more robust.
A minimum 30-seconds is for a VERY warm tank (120 - 140’F). Times are longer the cooler the tank.
