Chiller ChemicalsWhat are Chiller Chemicals used for?
Chiller Chemicals are used to minimize corrosion to closed loop water systems. It primary purpose is the removal of the corrosive substance by the means of passivation, precipitation, or adsorption. Passivation works best for laboratory chillers, industrial chillers, process chillers and for other closed loop systems. Passivation inhibitors form a protective oxide film on the metal surfaces. Their protective films are tenacious and will rapidly repair itself if damaged.
What Chiller Chemical do I used for our closed loop water system?
The most common and most cost effective closed loop chemical used to passivate your water system is a Nitrite, Borate, and Silicate closed loop chemical. For very critical closed loop systems, a straight molybdate product is used to control corrosion.
How much chemical do I feed to my closed loop water system?
Ask what the feedrate ppm (parts per million rate) is of the chemical.
How do I add the chemical to the system?
For closed loop water system, the product is typically added to a industrial pot feeder.
How long will the chiller chemical last before it needs to be replaced?
7 to 10 years. Nitrite takes many year to convert to Nitrate. Once the product has converted to Nitrate it is no longer provides proper passivation.
What water treatment tests need to be performed?
Monitor the water conductivity and nitrite residuals. For closed loop water systems, 800 to 1200 ppm of nitrite residual must be continuous maintained.
