Types of Steam Boiler Chemicals

What chemicals are used for Steam Boilers?
Steam boilers use 4 main products scale inhibitors, oxygen scavengers, amines, and alkalinity builders.

What is a scale inhibitor?
Ths most common boiler scale inhibitor is phosphate and polymers or a blend of both.

What is an oxygen scavenger?
A boiler oxygen scavenger is used to remove oxygen from entering the water system. The most common type is sodium sulfite.

What are amines?
Amines are considered condensate pH boosters. The three most common ones are cyclohexlyamine, morpholine, and DEAE. These products can be used straight or in 2 or 3 blend formulations.

What steam boiler chemical program should I use?
For high steam usage boilers or very low returned condensate boiler systems, generally a 3 or 4 drums chemical program is used. For lower steam usage boiler systems, a 1 to 2 drum boiler chemical program may be used to reduce the number of chemical drums onsite. This program is referred to as an All in One chemical.

What is an "All in One" chemical?
An All in One Boiler Chemical is a combination of all the essentials required to properly treat a steam boiler and is designed to simplify your chemical selection.

How should I feed my steam boiler chemical?
Always use a chemical injection quill with a check valve to inject the chemical near the center of the feed water pipe, steam header, or feed water tank. This will ensure good mixture of your chemical. For systems, that were not designed with the correct number of chemical injection ports, please refer to our triple port chemical injection quills and dual port chemical injection quills.
